Design And Planning for The Creative Realm

by Thomas Carley

Goals and Marketing

Welcome to The Creative Realm - An E-zine for the creative streak in all of us.

This is the start of a E-zine concept to help promote artists, playwrights, chefs, and great thinkers, and all the work they do.  E-zine stands for electronic magazine. The format is similar to what you will find on Huffington Post or RefDesk, except for related to the creative arts in all its forms. There are plenty of talented and creative people out in our world, and I intend to try to shed some light on what they are up to. The target audience will be mainly Aesthetic people, of any gender or age. I will hope to appeal to both Urban and rural areas. In picking my design I wanted to have things in a columns and linear.

The purpose of this site is to celebrate the diversity in art, theatre, cuisine, and creative thinking. For way too long, the media has been focused on a very narrow band of entertainment, namely geared towards a preteen and young adult audience, and we feel it's time for a more mature attitude. I will shift the focus back to where it belongs, to the creative community, who work tirelessly, to do nothing, but share their great talents with all of us, and to show you what their hearts are made of. Here at The Creative Realm, which is a sister project of Tom's Music Place, are dedicated to those who are established as well as creative individuals who are new to the business or have been ignored. I will lead you to the water so to speak, and not spend time making up endless adjectives. I am not here to tell you what to look at or what to enjoy as far as theater, food and how what makes you think, and like. You have your own eyes, ears, taste bud and you can judge that for yourself, our job here at The Creative Realm is to be the messenger, and to find these great artists, and bring you their work, and in turn, you will support these people, by supporting, and enjoying their work, so they will continue to make more.

Focus On Usability:

The hardest part of the whole project was deciding on the colors. Everything else seemed to go ok, except for wide variations of opinions on what the project should look like. When I first was done with my original ideas, I had three people look it over, and give me their opinions, and all three hated the original color scheme. The original look was sort of like a honeycomb look to it. With golds and browns as the theme colors, with variations. But after their distaste of the colors, decided to go for a more web-friendly color format by going towards a bluer look. After I redesigned the site, with these new colors, I went back to the same three people, and all loved it, and that what you see now,  is that end result.

As far as the coding, I really didn't have too many issues. I simply used the techniques taught to me during this term, as well as adding in some of the ideas I gathered from some of the resources presented to me in the class resource section.

I did, want to challenge myself, by including both external and internal CSS styles, and created some issues at first, but learned through the process how to make it work.

Images:

I am a promoter, so I used images from different projects and friends who I know, and am trying to get their work noticed by the general public, and the images enhanced the overall enjoyment of the site.

Media:

The videos and audio I used, was for the same purpose, to help friends promote. I made sure each video, held to that page's theme and agenda.

Validating Experience:

All the HTML validates, and all the CSS would validate if not for the You Tube videos I included. On the Contact page there are no videos, and the CSS validates with no issues.

Browser Testing Experience:

I tested the site on browsers, and noticed no differences except for occasional borders changing size.

Over all the experience, was awesome, and was loving the whole process.
